Royal Green Jackets

The Royal Green Jackets were formed on the 1st January 1966, from  the Green Jackets Brigade, who were formed on the 6th November 1958.
Three  Infantry Regiments formed the Green Jackets Brigade, and they were,

Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (43rd & 52nd )
The Kings Royal Rifle Corps (60th Rifles )
The Rifle Brigade (95th).

The Regiment  were the first British to wear green camouflage and to be armed with a rifle, instead of a musket, which made shooting much more accurate. They shared the Depot at Winchester from 1858.
The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry were the first Light Infantry Regiment.

The British Army was continually expanded and reduced. In 1741 the 54th Regiment of Infantry was raised, this was one of the expansions. Disbandments at the end of the war in 1748 spared the regiment, but it was renumbered as the 43rd, due to the disbandments of other regiments. In 1755 another 54th Regiment was raised, but this one was based at Coventry, instead of Winchester like the first 54th Regiment. Then in 1757 it was renumbered the 52nd, The two Regiments became the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in 1908.
