Following info given to us by John Robert Halfacre:
Robert was a chartered Account before he retired. He left home when he was 10 to live with his grandparents (paternal I think) due to lack of space in his parents house in East London when their last daughter Pat arrived. During the early part of the war he was a fire watcher in the City. He learnt his accountancy in night classes while working as a bicycle messenger boy. After being an auditor for a while (where he met my mother on a job in Baker Street), he moved to Watford after the married and worked for Fishburn Printing Ink company, becoming chief accountant until he retired in 1984.
