Worked at Grange, which is now HMS Sultan, as a Clerk of Works.
During the War travelled round all the Airdromes with his work as Clerk of Works.

RAF Gosport commonly know as The Grange changed to HMS Siskin, then it changed to HMS Sultan.
After the War George was sent to Thorney Island, RAF Camp, as Clerk of Works.

HMS Sultan was originally RAF Gosport it was then transferred to the Royal Navy during 1945 as HMS Siskin. It was then renamed to HMS Sultan on 1st June 1956 when the airfield side was closed down and a Mechanical Repair Establishment was moved from the Flathouse area by Portsmouth Dockyard.

George was taught to mend boots and shoes by his father-in-law, Thomas Hutchinson. He used to mend the familes shoes and boots.
